Comments

When visitors leave comments on our sites we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. CONAHEC reserves the right to remove any content from our sites for any reason at any time regardless of who submitted it and for what purpose. If you see content on this site that should be reviewed by CONAHEC, please email membership@conahec.org with a cc to conahec@gmail.com. Please be sure to specify the web address (URL) at which you found the content in question.

Media

If you upload images to any of our websites, be aware they may contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. CONAHEC is not responsible for any data circulation or misuse arising from your use of this website – please only submit information that you are comfortable sharing publicly and permanently with everyone, even within the portion of the site that requires authentication. Please report any misuse of information or concerns regarding the information in this site as soon as possible to membership@conahec.org with cc to conahec@gmail.com. Please be as specific as possible, particularly concerning where the information in question can be located by us.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

You can erase cookies at your convenience from your browser by following instructions specific to the browser you use that can be easily found on the web.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. CONAHEC is entirely unable to influence how those sites behave regarding their information collection and use.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. Be aware that any information you submit to this site can be viewed, copied and retained by third parties. While CONAHEC will attempt to protect your personal information using SSL and careful data transmission, storage, retrieval and maintenance practices, not share it intentionally without your permission and use it ourselves only for ethical purposes, access to information on the Internet including in the public and authentication required sections of this website by sophisticated hackers is beyond CONAHEC’s ability to prevent and control. Please only share information you are willing to make public. Please report any misuse of information to membership@conahec.org with a cc to conahec@gmail.com.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. This is also so we can implement our content moderation rules. All decisions taken by CONAHEC staff about content on this site that is under our control are unilateral and entirely up to the discretion of CONAHEC. Please be advised that all content submissions including comments are expected to be polite, civil and all criticism should be constructive. We will not tolerate any improprieties, insults or content that exceeds our standards of decency. Again, these standards are entirely decided and acted upon by CONAHEC staff and aren’t up for debate. Please only submit information and content that you are comfortable having become part of the permanent public record and remember that we will exert our sole discretion regarding whether or not it will be edited (primarily for spelling, grammar or brevity) promoted for visibility in additional areas of the site or removed partially or entirely. CONAHEC staff may not see all information submitted to our sites before it is publicly visible. We apologize in advance if any offensive or otherwise questionable content gets through our filtration systems. If you notice content on this site that should be reviewed by content moderators, please report it to membership@conahec.org with a cc to conahec@gmail.com.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can see all information in this site and edit, change, delete most of it.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. If we deem that the content you have submitted is inappropriate, we will indefinitely keep information used to identify your account to review and potentially restrict or ban future submissions from you.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection or content moderation service. This automated service may prevent content from appearing in our website. This will happen if certain key words, particularly obscenities are contained in the content. This is also beyond CONAHEC’s direct control but quite intentional.
